Olympic National Park was founded in 1938 and is located in the western part of the US state of Washington on the Olympic Peninsula. Since 1976 the national park has also been designated as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. In 1981 UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. Since the national park is located on a remote peninsula, some animal and plant species have developed here that can only be found here in the park. For this reason, the park is a popular research area for biologists and zoologists.
The national park consists of two separate parts. The coastline is very rugged and often shrouded in fog. Inland, the forest connects directly to the beaches, which often leads to fallen tree trunks lying across the beach. The core area of the park is the mountainous region around the Olympic Mountains, which is covered by many ancient glaciers. To the west of it are temperate rainforest up to the park boundary, here lies the wettest point in the contiguous United States.

Animal Armory - Episode 1: Teeth & Claws | Animal Documentary
Watch 'Animal Armory - Episode 2' here: https://youtu.be/yj54MbcptoE
Teeth and claws. Many animals possess them, but seldom are they wielded with the lethal mastery we see in this episode. Crocodiles and wolves are apex predators, using their teeth with terrifying effect, ensuring they keep their place at the top of their respective food chains. A simple flick of the baboon's lip reveals its menacing teeth, enough to strike fear into their enemies, and keep them at bay. Bears and tigers are infamous for the lethal wounds inflicted by their razor sharp claws. The owl's talons, though not as devastating in face to face combat, are unmatched when employed with stealth to take down their prey. Armored crabs fight and defend what's theirs by cutting and crushing foes in their pincers. In this episode of the Animal Armory we take a close look at these mighty instruments of destruction and the animals that wield them with such absolute precision.

Blue Realm - Episode 6: Whale Sharks
They’re not whales at all, but by far the largest fish in the sea. Yet at nearly 50 feet in length and weighing 20 tons or more, they eat only the smallest marine animals. They are not a threat to humans, but their numbers are dramatically shrinking. Like elephants slaughtered for their ivory tusks, whale sharks are relentlessly pursued by poachers. From Africa to Asia, they are targeted for their meat and immense fins.
Whale Sharks: Gentle Giants introduces us to this amazing creature through scientists who are racing against time to save the species. Utilizing space-age technology from NASA and the Hubble Telescope, researchers are able to identify, catalogue and track individual sharks. In Mexico and remote Western Australia, whale shark tourism has proven to be both a blessing and a curse, as more and more boats vie for fewer animals. The program also features the remarkable story of shark cowboys who captured and transported 4 live whale sharks (in customized jumbo jets) to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

In the animal kingdom, the ability to hide amongst your surroundings and be unseen not only affords you safety from predators but can also make you a deadly hunter.

Colombia has more species of bird and vertebrates than anywhere else on Earth. All have adapted to life in a bewildering array of habitats.

Race of Life - Episode 12: The Race Underfoot | Wildlife Documentary
Watch 'Race of Life - Episode 13' here: https://youtu.be/9d8j7HTGEx8
In this episode we explore the Race of Life on a small scale but no less competitive or cruel for all that. Insects burrow through the ground, hop and sing in the trees, and dart and dance in the air. They come in many different colors and shapes. There are many reasons why insects are so successful at surviving. Their ability to survive in all kinds of temperatures and environments. A strong, hard but flexible shell called an exoskeleton covers their soft organs and is resistant to chemicals, water and physical impact. Their wings give them the option of flying away from dangerous situations or toward food or mates. In this episode: Dragonflies hover like helicopters over ponds and lakes, then suddenly dart away, pursuing prey or other dragonflies. The monarch butterfly goes through a miraculous metamorphosis, changing from an egg to a hungry caterpillar to a quiet pupa and emerging as a beautiful winged adult. The praying mantis is a master of disguise. Its green body, wings and legs merge into the green, leafy background so carefully it seems to be part of the grass. Perched at an angle, with its spiny forelegs raised in a prayerlike pose, the mantis sits in still rigidness - until another insect such as a fly comes too near and is suddenly captured and devoured. Ants, like bees, hornets and wasps, are social insects and live together in colonies in many-chambered nests. Whatever it takes, to stay in the race.

Grand Canyon - The Jaw-Dropping Beauty of America's National Park | Wildlife Documentary
Watch 'Great Smoky Mountains - A Fairytale World from Once Upon A Time' here: https://youtu.be/QRjBlFLb324
Few natural wonders on Earth are as awe-inspiring as the Grand Canyon. Over millions of years, the Colorado River has carved a gorge up to 1,600 meters deep and nearly 30 kilometers wide at its broadest point. To preserve this landscape, the US government designated it a national monument in 1908, followed by the establishment of Grand Canyon National Park in 1919. In 1979, UNESCO officially named the Grand Canyon a World Heritage Site.

The Inner Hebrides - Scotland's Island Paradise | Nature Documentary
Watch 'England's Most Beautiful Destination: The Lake District' here: https://youtu.be/4kaiNhj0aHM
The Inner Hebrides surprise with green hills, fine sandy beaches and a mild climate, at least as far as Scottish conditions allow. This is ensured by the currents of the Gulf Stream, as well as the Scottish archipelago being protected by its sister islands, which belong to the Outer Hebrides. More than half of the almost 80 islands are uninhabited. Loneliness has made the people rather inventive.
On Tiree Island, mathematics, history and physics from the mainland arrive in the classroom per mouseclick. Dr Mauvis Gore and Prof. Rupert Ormond cast off from the island of Mull, after setting a course to encounter a basking shark. The cetohinus maximus is the world's second largest fish and the two scientists are absolutely convinced that the waters surrounding the Mull constitute the mating grounds for the basking sharks.
A logistical challenge takes place on the Isle of Easdale each September. Then, around 400 people populate the tiny slate island. Donals "Mellon" Melville organises the World Skimming Championships, a World Cup in jumping stones. This is all about the distance they are thrown and they must only hop above the water twice.

Turtles – A Spectacular Journey Across the Ocean | Free Documentary Nature
Turtles – The Fascinating World of Nature’s Little Giants | Free Documentary Nature
This engaging documentary lifts the lid on the life of the turtle, showing that contrary to our perceptions, they are actually impressive hunters and great lovers.
Generally speaking, turtles are slow, calm, gentle creatures. But not always, and not all of them. Certain turtle species are fearsome hunters, while others, during mating season, become fierce fighters capable of killing, and still others are the seas’ greatest voyagers or the world’s most amazing time-travelers. Some live hundreds of years. They can also hibernate or live buried underground for months before being born. Their shells could withstand a lion’s bite, although that does complicate sex a bit.
These incredible beings have been on the planet since before the dinosaurs appeared. The evolutionary race is a distance event, not a sprint, and the truth is that turtles are in the lead. The hare is just a newcomer. We will see the alligator turtle hunting with a lure, as well as the mata mata's incredible technique of sucking its victims… We will see the fight of the biggest leopard tortoises and the biggest arrival of the olive ridley turtles. Babies emerging from the ground, after months of hibernation, the hatching of different species, or their ways of defence.

The park is the most significant breeding ground for tropical wading birds in North America and contains the largest mangrove ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere. Thirty-six threatened or protected species inhabit the park, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile, and the West Indian manatee, along with 350 species of birds, 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish, 40 species of mammals, and 50 species of reptiles. The majority of South Florida's fresh water, which is stored in the Biscayne Aquifer, is recharged in the park.
Most national parks preserve unique geographic features. Everglades National Park was the first created to protect a fragile ecosystem.
