Synopsis: The case: Dr. Joseph Wieder, a charismatic university professor, was murdered. An inmate, Isaac Samuel, is on death row for the crime—but he now claims innocence and offers new information. Roy (despite his memory issues) begins to revisit the investigation, digging into suspect Richard Finn’s manuscript, and uncovering tangled relationships involving Finn, Wieder, and Laura Baines.
As Roy’s memories resurface, he unravels betrayals, suicide or murder, hidden sexual liaisons, and a conspiracy that implicates those he once trusted. In the climax he confronts Wieder and the truth leads to violent resolution, with Roy forced to choose between justice and self-preservation.
