Australia stunned India with a dominant 217-run victory in the 1st Test at Bangalore during the famous 2004 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Making his Test debut, Michael Clarke announced himself on the biggest stage with a magnificent 151, becoming only the 17th Australian to score a century on Test debut. Adam Gilchrist then unleashed a breathtaking hundred, while Glenn McGrath and Michael Kasprowicz exploited reverse swing brilliantly to put India under relentless pressure.

Despite Harbhajan Singh's five wickets in the first innings and six more in the second, Australia piled up enough runs to set India a daunting target of 457. Irfan Pathan fought bravely with his maiden Test fifty, but Australia completed a memorable 217-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
